Amélie Giselle Chevalier was born on July 18th, 1995 at Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, the first child of Jean-Baptiste and Marie Chevalier. Her early childhood was simple and fun for Amélie-- her parents were so overjoyed to have a little girl that they did their best to keep her happy, working hard to nearly spoil her. From birth, her parents began teaching her to speak French and Luxembourgish; both were raised in France, and both languages were important, so it only made sense.

When Amélie was four, her younger sister, Josephine, was born. Life only got more fun from there-- Josephine was the perfect playmate for Amélie. Both were quiet, mild-mannered girls, and they rarely fought. When Amélie started school, she did extremely well, and clearly loved learning. She picked languages up quickly, and while she was extremely shy and didn't have a lot of friends, she did well, and loved going to school. When Amélie was ten, her brother, Luc, was born.

As Amélie got older, school remained extremely important to her. She, like other students in Luxembourg, learned German and English in addition to French and Luxembourgish-- she soon learned to speak English without an accent at all from her father, whose mother was from the United States. Amélie spent summers studying the four languages with the help of her father, instead of spending all of them playing with her friends and siblings, and soon was fluent in all four.

Amélie was fourteen when she first expressed a desire to go to boarding school, telling her parents that she wanted to be independent. Jean-Baptiste and Marie were not about to tell their daughter that she couldn't be independent. They told her that she could go when she was sixteen, if she still felt that way. And she did.
