HISTORY: Miguel Carlos Rivera was born in Rincon, Puerto Rico. He was the first born in his family out of three kids (a younger brother who was born when he was six and sister who was born when he was seven) and was raised in a huge extended family. Everyone - for the most part - got along and every Friday night, there was a party going on with tons of food and dancing and singing. The whole family, aunts, uncles, cousins, everyone, were devout Christians and, as a group, they always went to Sunday services. However, they weren't always seeing eye to eye with the Pastor. For example, they enjoyed drinking and occasional drug use (Mike never got into the drugs but does enjoy a casual drink every now and again) and for the most part, Mike's family were okay with gay rights. Meaning, no one spoke out against same sex marriages, but there was also no one standing up for homosexuals. It was kind of just an unspoken agreement that they didn't want anything splitting up their close family bond. If the topic did pop up some time during a conversation, everyone would carefully skirt around it and avoid the question. No one knew the bomb that was going to be dropped on them in the too near future.

Growing up, Mike had a normal childhood, but nowhere near uneventful. Since his mother was a dancer, Mike was quickly whisked away into the dancing lifestyle at the ripe young age of three years old. He actually didn't mind it much, he loved the way the music made him feel, and he stuck with it throughout the rest of his life. He still dances for recreation. He entered into multiple dance competitions, sometimes in groups, sometimes solo, and sometimes with a single partner, and usually won every time. At the age of ten, he also discovered another talent, one that probably came from his father - Mike was a beautiful singer and guitarist with the ability to learn other instruments rather quickly. In eighth grade, he was awarded first place in the middle school talent show for performing an acoustic song that he had written himself. His whole family - or well, as many that could fit in the auditorium - were there to cheer him on and he had girls fawning over him and teachers congratulating him. He was the star student, the guy everyone wanted, the boy that even mothers found charming. There was, however, one little problem. That summer, Miguel realized something. He was gay.

He took a few weeks to get his thoughts together, to make sure he wasn't just going through a phase, but it soon became clear that these feelings were not going away any time soon. Mustering up all the courage he had, Mike sat his family down and told them. He wasn't the type that liked to keep secrets and lie and, knowing just how bad some kids had it because of keeping their sexual orientation a secret, Mike decided to just come right out and tell them. His brother and sister were the most supportive. His mother took a few days to come around to the idea, and his father a few weeks, but they eventually told him that they loved him no matter what. Pleased with the outcome, Mike decided to get the next hurtle out of the way - he had to tell the rest of his family. He did just that at the last Friday night party before high school started. There was a stunned silence, no one had seen it coming, but then something incredibly amazing happened. His whole family, young and old, all broke out into applause. They told him that, though they might not be too comfortable with the idea at first, they would support him no matter what and nothing would ever change that. To say that Mike had it easy would be a dramatic understatement.

The first day of high school, Mike came out to all of his friends. The girls that had always pursued him were the next classmates that he told and eventually, everyone knew. Of course there was some bullying but with such supportive family and friends and even quite a few teachers, which surprised him, Mike was able to get through high school without too much trouble. After senior year, with straight A's and a ton of extracurricular activities to add to his transcript, Mike was accepted into Rutgers University. He was pursuing his lifelong dream of being a teacher, of changing kids lives and being just as supportive as his teachers had been for him. He wanted to teach high school because those were some of the truest and best days of his lives. He knew how hard it could be for some kids and he wanted to make a difference for them. It was incredibly difficult leaving his family behind, they had never been apart for longer than a few days, but Mike had their support no matter what. It was knowing this that gave him the courage to pack up and head to the states, a place he had never been.

His college years were filled with the normal debauchery you would expect. Drinking, partying, sex, late nights, cramming for tests - somehow, Mike still managed to get through it all with some of the top grades in his class. At the age of twenty-five, he was offered a job at Daze and eagerly moved closer to the school. He started in September of the 2011/2012 year and is hoping to have the job for a long, long time.

APPEARANCE: Mike is just what many people picture when they visualize a Latin guy. He is tall, standing at a height of six feet and one inch, tan, and handsome. He's muscular from dancing and working out with a few tattoos littered across his body. His eyes are brown and always sparkling with laughter. His voice is gentle, soft, charming, and able to make any girl - or guy! - feel weak in the knees. His hair, dark brown, is kept on the shorter side. His teeth are perfectly white and straight, giving him a heartwarming smile that goes along perfectly with his charming personality.
