The war ended in a victory for the Soul Society and brought the downfall of Sôsuke Aizen and his cohorts, Kaname Tousen and Gin Ichimaru. The Soul Society, however, was left in a state of turmoil. Most of the Sereitei was left in ruins. Three of the Thirteen Division Imperial Squads remained without captains. Many Shinigami and humans alike were left dead. The Thirteen Court Guard Squads were left with little time to patrol the human realm for Hollows. And, during the war, both the Vizards and the Arrancar were completely wiped out.

Two years passed and the rebuilding of the Seireitei continued on without seeming to be at an end. Unbeknown to the Shinigami, the rebuilding of Las Noches was too well on its way. One lone Arrancar had managed to escape the same fate the others had encountered: Ulquiorra Cifer. He had begun to pull together his own team of Arrancar, ready to finish what Aizen had begun. And this time, he planned to do it right. Along with the revival of the Arrancar came the resurrection of the Vizards. Shinji Hirako, the Vizard’s lone survivor, stationed himself in the human world and began scouting for fellow Vizards. He sought to build a team of the top ten Vizards called the elite, intending for them to be an even match for the Arrancar's espada.

The Arrancar army is rising once again.
