HISTORY:
Birth to age 7:
Samantha was born about 15 years ago on May 2. Her parents were extremely happy and so were her brothers. Well, Charlie only lived with her for a year and Brian moved out when she was two. Ever since Samantha was born, she’s had a surgery every year. Mostly it was on her ear because she got so many ear infections. She met her best friend Vanessa at the age of one, too. The two were inseparable and they grew up together.
Samantha felt like a big sister to her and she lived a pretty happy life. She never let things get her down. One day, when she was four, her grandparents came down from Baltimore to visit. They were foster parents, so they brought a little boy they were fostering down. She loved her grandparents to death and they loved her. One morning on their visit, Samantha was told to go wake her Grandpa up so he could come eat.
See, Samantha’s Grandma always slept in the same room as her and her Grandpa and the little boy slept in the guest room. Samantha skipped down to the guest room and opened the door with a big smile on her face. Little did she know, the smile wouldn’t last for long. She shook her Grandpa to wake him up, but he wasn’t breathing. She started to panic and left the room in a hurry, getting her parents and Grandma.
She had just found her Grandpa dead and cold. She still has nightmares about it today. But even that didn’t make her a depressed, unhappy person like people expected her to be. No, she was stronger than they thought. She had her best friend, her brothers, her parents, and a good dog.
At the age of five, she started Kindergarten. She was always the sweet, innocent one that the teachers loved and the other called a teachers pet. Her parents had taught her to respect her elders and that’s what she did. Respected them and everyone else. You’d never see her without a smile on that pale little face of hers.
She went through the next few school years like that, too. In second grade, age seven, she found out that her best guy friend was moving to New York. That was so far away from her state of West Virginia. She’d known him since Pre-school and didn’t want him gone. Not even that got her down, though. She kept on going. But sadly, her brother Charlie was sent over seas, for he was in the army.
She got upset and stopped being that happy little girl that she always was. Her parents took her a psychiatrist, who diagnosed her with just being sad at such a young age. She didn’t know what it was, but she never saw that lady again.
Ages 8-present day:
Again, Samantha was still having her surgeries. At the age of eight, though, she had her tonsils taken out. Her prize for that? She got a puppy. She named her Maggie May the First and Maggie May cuddle with Samantha while she was resting on the couch. She could barely talk and it as Thanksgiving week. That had made her mad, but her Dad put mashed potatoes on the bottom cup and let her eat it like that.
Samantha was disappointed that she wasn’t allowed to eat turkey or anything else, but her Mom made good mashed potatoes. That was also the same year her parents started to drink. That was also the year Brian got shipped over seas. Brian and her were closer than her and Charlie at the time, so it was rougher on her then, then it was with Charlie.
She went through the year sad and lonely, thinking her life was normal. That her life was how every kid was living theirs. It bothered her badly, but she just smiled through it. Smiling when she was sad made it so people didn’t ask what was wrong. She honestly didn’t want to tell them, for she didn’t think they cared all that much. Samantha started hanging out with a girl by the name of Darla.
The two were tight, too. Just like Samantha and Vanessa. The only thing was, Darla was a popular. Well, she grew up to be one. Samantha was up there on the food chain while she was friends with Darla. The only thing was, Darla knew nothing about her life. Nothing at all.
Samantha went through the next few years hanging out with Darla and her friends, not thinking anything of it. One day, she met Darla’s family and realized that her life was not normal. That not everyone lived like her, apparently. By this point, her parents were alcoholics and Samantha had to take care of herself while they were downstairs drinking and blaring their music.
Samantha was still her happy self, but with a life no one her age should’ve lived with. Her brothers knew nothing about her home life, for they were married and were starting families for themselves. She was happy with their choices in wives and got along with them well.
One day, something changed Samantha’s life. She got rejected by the guy she liked. It devastated her and she began to starve herself and learned what cutting was. She let the past catch up with her and began talking to people online. By this age she was eleven. Darla threatened to tell her parents if she didn’t stop, so she did stop.
In her sixth grade year, she stopped hanging out with Darla and started hanging out with new people. She began to cut again and never told anyone. She soon stopped, though because one of her new friends had found out and threatened to tell. All through middle school Samantha had to deal with being called ‘emo’ because of what she wore.
She hated that and didn’t see reason for it. Her new friends backed her up and beat on anyone that called her that. That or they told them off. Samantha’s life began to go spiraling down in her mind and by the eighth grade she was diagnosed with depression, on meds, and seeing two psychiatrists.
Her parents were fighting more, drinking more, involving drugs, and her dad was smoking. She hated having friends over because of those reasons. One day she just decided to up and leave against her parents wishes. She wanted to go far away from her home. She hated leaving her siblings and niece behind, but it was best for her.
She saved up money and went to Daze, which was really far away. She doesn’t regret leaving her house, but she wishes her niece were here with her. Her niece is the only reason that she’s living today.
