FAMILY:
- Father - Jon
- Mother - Katherine
- Brother - Taylor - Deceased
HISTORY:
Tom was born to his parents Katherine and Jon in Ontario, Canada in 1994. He was the pride and joy of their lives and the family immediately got attached to the boy the second he was out and exposed to the tainted air that is reality. His mother, Kathy for short, was very attached to him. She never let him out of her sight, and almost always had him bundled up inside her arms, minus for sleeping hours. His father was attached as well, though there proved to be one thing difficult about their relationship; he was hardly ever around for them. His father happened to be the lawyer for the large company Microsoft, and therefore he never really seemed to catch a day off. It was running around doing this, skipping out to do that; he seemed to just be a complete void when Tom was a baby. Eventually the boy would get older, and Jon tried his best, he really did, to be there for him…but it was difficult.
It began to get especially difficult, whenTom turned ten, and his mother was pregnant again. His life to that point had been pretty simple. He was a very quiet and intelligent kid, he didn’t have many friends, but that was all right with him. It was when his mother got pregnant yet again, did things become more hectic. His father seemed to completely disappear at this time, taking chunks of time to return home; sometimes a day, sometimes two, sometimes a month, sometimes two. Eventually Tom's baby brother, Taylor, was born right after his twelfth birthday. It was very hard for Tom to deal with losing so much attention from his mother when the baby was born, because Tom himself had become very attached to her existence, but now it was much harder to get the quality time with her he so desperately craved. She was always taking care of Taylor, and when she wasn’t, she was too tired to do much of anything besides cook half-decent meals and leave Tom to fend for himself.
The boy, at age thirteen, soon began to take care of his little brother. He began to look after him very carefully, ensuring that he was all right at all times of the day, and giving his mother the much needed rest she deserved, in his eyes. Weeks seemed to pass and form into months, and then months accumulated to years, and Tom was as devoted to Taylor more than anyone expected. These months clumped together into years, and as the years passed, things turned different, including Tom. Soon the boy was in High School, and things got more challenging. He was moving into all honours level classes and the support from his family wasn’t getting him much of anywhere; seeming as though the only bit of it came from his six year old brother. His father was still nothing but a figment of his imagination it seemed, and it hurt Tom a lot more than what he led on. He began to resent his father for seemingly abandoning him throughout his- no, their lives, and became infuriated with him.
Then something happened to Tom's family, and it was something that would never leave him the same again. When his brother had turned Seven, he also turned a little…recklessly hyper. The boy was always bouncing off the walls and doing whatever he pleased and it angered Tom, but he never took it out on anyone but himself. Then, one day, whenTom was sitting in his front yard, tanning with some of his friends, he heard the scrambling pitter patter of steps before looking up just in time to catch wind of his brother, running frantically from his mother inside their house and towards the street. She needed him to take a bath, and he refused and ran. Before Tom even had a chance to focus on what was going on, there was a high pitched wailing, a shrill scream, and then an abrupt slamming sound.
Taylor had been hit by an ongoing car. He died on impact.
Tom seemed to just blame himself for what happened. Whichever way he looked at it, it was his fault. He began to completely shut himself off from the world, and he didn’t think things could ever be the same again. He found one way of dealing with the burden of emotional turmoil within his life, and it happened one day on spring break. He was in his room like usual, trying to re-arrange his desk and other personal items, when suddenly he made a wrong move and gashed his hand into the jagged metal piece on the side of the desk he was moving. It wasn’t his hand, but his wrist, to be more specific. There was something very, very wrong though. Tom felt nothing. He felt himself sigh…and he felt, relieved, of all things. He condemned himself for such feelings, but he didn’t know why he felt them. He realised it was the only way he ever felt “alive” again, or the only way he felt connected to anything any more. And so the boy began the obscure and taboo habit of cutting himself whenever things became too hard to deal with, and so he continues it to this day, blaming himself for every minute he exists.
Simply because his brother does not.
But things were becoming worse around his house, his home; everything. He began lashing out towards his father when he was around, and in school he was getting into some deep drama that had trailed its way back to his mother. Soon, after the boy couldn’t take it any more; he left. He fathered all his things up in the middle of the night, and left. He walked to the airport near his town, before giving a call to his Aunt Denise in San Fran. He told her he needed to live with her, and he was on his last foot, and so she said yes. He fled his home town as fast as he could, getting onto the aeroplane with such haste, his back turned towards Ontario.
And never planning on returning back.
So now at daze, Tom is the quirky new kid. He finds it easy to fall into friendships because he has trust issues. He has a small circle of friends he keeps close, and some others that are mere friends, whom he feels comfortable with. Daze has changed his look on things, and he feels that his life had been wiped clean of the dirt and grime he had before called his li
